The first catechists in any child’s life are the family members with whom he or she lives. What happens at home – both positive and negative – provides lessons for life. In the family, faith is shared as part of the unfolding of daily life. The home or “domestic church” provides a real place in which a child learns to live his or her faith as well as understanding it.
Our goal is to create a program of lifelong faith formation that is centered in and flows out of the events of Church life. It embraces all ages and generations, promotes faith growth at home and promotes participation in Church life.
Our parish supports parents in their vocation as the "first educators" of their children in the ways of faith. In addition to the OLS school, we also offer Religious Education for children who are not enrolled in the school, from grades 1 through 8. Religious Education classes are offered in the school building on the following days:
Sunday morning
9:30 to 10:45
Wednesday evening
6:00 to 7:15
Note: Not all grades are taught in all sessions. See the Religious Education Grades page to find out which classes are taught at what times.
Summer Religious Education
The Summer Program is offered to our parishioners as an alternative to the traditional once a week class format that is held from September through May.
The Summer Program seeks to accommodate the busy schedules of our families by eliminating the weekly "shuttling" of children to the parish campus from September through May. Class time is the same as the regular program, but condensed into a two-week period. This "intensive" plan provides for a more focused approach and retention of the subject matter.
Students will stay "connected" to the parish throughout the year through weekly mass and by attending 3 catechetical sessions during the Advent, Lent, and Easter seasons. Parental involvement is expected.
The Summer Program is open to students of Grades 3 – 6. For information and registration forms, please call Mrs. Francis at 587-4372.
