The OLS-SA Holy Name Society is a parish organization devoted to serving the spiritual, social, service, and faithful needs of the men of the parish, which it has been doing for the past 60 years. We are part of a National Federation that professes several objectives including: honoring the Holy Name of Jesus; imitating Him in our thoughts, words, and actions; performing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy; and combatting pornography. Our Society has also expanded into a religious discussion group. The national Holy Name Pledge appears at the end of this statement.
The annual dues are $20; additional donations, which enable us to broaden our endeavors, are appreciated. We primarily support the graduates of Our Lady of Sorrows school, the parish school. When our budget allows, we support four graduates with $100 Scholarships. We also support charitable organizations and programs.
We perform or plan to carry out the following spiritual, service, and social activities suggested by the National Federation:
Our meetings currently include discussions of a religious, inspirational, and motivational nature, using Christopher News Notes as one guide to follow. The Christopher Motto is “Better to Light One Candle than Curse the Darkness.” We fully believe in that motto.
We meet monthly from October to May, currently on the 3rd Friday of the month in the Church Library. Look for our meeting notice in the weekly parish bulletin. Gentlemen of the parish, visit with us and see what the Holy Name Society does and teaches monthly.
