Dear Parishioners,
Allow me to express my gratitude to our parishioners who assisted at the Masses celebrated at Saint Anthony Church last weekend (August 6-7). Having come to Mass on a weekend of record heat and humidity, they had to deal with no Air Conditioning and no music. I am especially grateful to our deacons and other liturgical ministers for their understanding. Fr. Bill Dunlap, one of our senior priests, who assisted on Saturday, was of good nature despite being confined in the confessional and as celebrant of the Mass that followed despite the heat. (I hope the unfavorable circumstances did not discourage him from returning in the future!
The genesis of the problems was with the Air Conditioning. Metal components of the thirty-year-old system had deteriorated to the point of causing extensive water infiltration and damage to the stairwell of the belltower. Sections of the concrete and plaster ceiling fell and so as a safety precaution, access to the choir loft was closed off. Hence, the lack of music!
We had been studying the bell tower roof thinking this was the cause of the problem but discovered the need to replace the AC metal components. This is being addressed. Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding!With affection,
