Helpful Information

New Parishioners

Welcome! Please register at the parish office as soon

as possible in order to be added to the parish data

base and begin receiving envelopes.

Current Parishioners

Please notify the parish office when you have a change

of address, phone number, or e-mail. Also please

advise the office if you move out of the parish or if you

or your spouse move to a skilled nursing care facility,

rehabilitation facility, or assisted living facility. Please

note that children should register independently once

they complete their education and join the workforce,

even if they continue to reside with you.

Envelopes

The use of envelopes—regardless of what, if

anything, you put in them—is important. Their use

documents your active participation in the faith life of

the parish (information needed in order for a Letter of

Eligibility to be issued when you are asked to be a

baptism or confirmation sponsor) and facilitates the

preparation of a statement of contributions for income

tax purposes.

Sacrament of Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first

Sunday of the month at 11:15 a.m. at St. Anthony

Church, and on the second and third Sundays of the

month at 12:15 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

Godparents (sponsors) must be at least sixteen years

of age, and must have received the sacraments of

initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If

married, they must be married in or with permission of

the Catholic Church. They must obtain a Letter of

Eligibility from the parish in which they currently

worship and provide it to the parish office at OLS-SA

at least a week before the Baptism. Only one sponsor

is required; if two persons are asked to take this role,

they cannot be of the same sex.

Non-Catholic baptized Christians cannot assume the

role of godparent, but may serve as a Christian

Witness along with a sponsor. (Since a Christian

Witness is not a sponsor, they are not part of the

official record of Baptism.)

Parents are required to attend a Baptismal

Preparation Class before the Baptism. Godparents

are not required to attend, but are welcome to do so.

The class is held on the second Thursday of each

month at 7:30 p.m. in the Church Meeting Room at

Our Lady of Sorrows.

Parents should call the parish office well in advance

to schedule a Baptism.

Sacrament of Marriage

In keeping with the Common Policy of the Catholic

Diocese of New Jersey, arrangements should be

made at least one year prior to the marriage. Please

contact Joan Bartolomei at the parish office.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is not only for those who are at the

point of death, but for anyone who is seriously ill. A

person does not have to wait until the illness is so

grave that he or she is in the hospital or

institutionalized to celebrate the sacrament. If you or

one of your loved ones would like to receive this

healing sacrament, please contact the parish office.

Ministries for the Sick, Elderly, and Homebound

Please notify the parish office if you or your

immediate family member is hospitalized, goes into a

rehabilitation, assisted living, or skilled nursing care

facility, or becomes homebound (either temporarily or

over a longer term). Health care facilities no longer

routinely notify parishes when parishioners are admitted,

so the only way for us to know is if you call us.

· Special Ministers of the Eucharist will bring

Holy Communion to homebound parishioners and

those in local medical facilities.

· The parish’s Caring Hearts group provides

volunteer services (1-2 hours per week) to

homebound seniors and people with disabilities. If

you or someone you know would like a friendly

visitor or help with shopping, transportation,

chores, paperwork, or other non-medical needs,

please call Anne Kantor at 586-6596.

· Those who are ill can be included in the Prayer

List that appears in the weekly bulletin if they

would like parishioners to offer prayers for them.

All it takes is a call to the parish office, but please

understand that you must have the permission of

the individual involved in order for his or her name

to appear.

Eucharistic Adoration

Daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the chapel at

Mary’s Haven. Please call the parish office for details.

Mass Intentions, Sanctuary Lamps, Flowers

Mass intentions, sanctuary lamps, and flowers in

memory of a loved one, in thanksgiving, or for a

special intention are available. Mass cards may be

obtained at the parish office for $10. A sanctuary

lamp—there are two at each church—may be lit for a

week for $15 and flowers may be ordered for

weekend liturgies at both churches for $35 per

arrangement. Please contact the parish office.
