Nestled on 12 acres in suburban Mercerville, NJ, our campus provides an exceptional educational environment, from early child care through the eighth grade.

Scheduling & Ages
Our Lady of Sorrows  Pre-School and Child Care Center welcomes children from 6 weeks through 5 years of age. Our center is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Monday thru Friday. Because many of today’s parents balance the responsibility of raising children with that of full-time careers, we offer over 30 different scheduling sessions to suit their varied needs.

Summer Programs
In addition to our regular school calendar, our center offers a summer program. This program is designed to provide parents the comfort of knowing their children can have continued care during the traditional summer vacation from school. During the summer program, our children enjoy a variety of activities, with an emphasis on outdoor play.

Primary Goals

  1. To help your child make a successful transition from the home environment to the school setting.

  2. To help ease parents through the separation process.

  3. To help children learn to be with others and to become familiar with a group setting.

  4. To help children develop the feelings of security and success, as well as a joy and interest in learning.
  1. To help children develop self-expression, self-control, responsibility, and creativity.
  1. To keep communication open between parents and our school.
  1. To strive to keep our program up-to-date.
  1. To treat each child as we would want our own children to be treated.
  1. To foster growth academically, socially and spiritually.

Our Mission & History
In the fall of 1939, our founders purchases 12 acres of land to plant the seed for the perfect community environment for area Roman Catholics. They broke ground in the summer of 1941 and, despite the bombing of Pearl Harbor, laid the foundation on which the cornerstone was set on October 18, 1942.

With the firm belief that the development of the spirit is the primary goal when guiding children through their primary educational experience, construction of our lady of sorrows school began in October, 1954. The school opened its doors for the first time in Sept, 1955.

In the late 1980’s, Our Lady of Sorrows school decided to provide early childhood education and child care. In 1989, the  Pre-School and Child Care center opened its doors to children from 18 months thru five years of age.

Today, our school, pre-school and child care center continue to strive to develop a life-long love of learning. We stand apart from others because of our commitment to help children develop a practical faith and moral compass which will help them take their place in the world with peace and hope.

LOOKING BACK…
In 1998, we began our Preschool and Child Care Center here at Our Lady of Sorrows. It seems like yesterday that we began that September with a group of sixty-five, three and four year old children. We only had two classrooms and a staff of six. We were only opened during the regular school year from 9 to 3. Our administrative office was a desk in the corner of the kitchen area. We didn’t even have a secretary and only one phone line. Yet the most important qualifications for educating that first class and future classes was established. We always tried to exemplify the kind of early Childhood program that was based on Christian principles. We treated every child as a gift from God. We reveled in the privilege of giving our children their first positive experience with school. We loved helping to build their faith with their families and we tried to service not only the child but the family as well.

TODAY:
Some things change and others never change. We still model our school after the same founding philosophy and Christian principles. We still thank God for the opportunity to educate our youngest family. That will always remain the same. But with gratitude our school has expanded this year to five classrooms. We have two administrative offices, a teacher resource room, a kitchen, video cameras in all the classrooms, a climate controlled environment, intercom systems, a front door monitoring system, three phone lines, a fax machine, computers for offices, teachers and for the children. We have a sprinkling system, fire monitoring, fire doors, two beautiful fenced in play areas. Our staff has increased to 30. Now we can accommodate families and their children who are as young as six weeks up to kindergarten entrance. We are now open 5 days a week from 7:30-5:30. We continue to be grateful to our publicity committee. That committee consists of all the parents whose children have attended in the past or now attend. We thank you for all the wonderful recommendations that you are giving our school.

LET IT BEGIN WITH ME

The world's a disgrace and a terrible place,
Or at least say the prophets of doom.
With fear all around and no peace to be found,
It's a landscape of darkness and gloom.

There's hunger and doubt, who cares about
All the suffering, trial and pain;
And there's not a place in the whole human race
Where a soul can be happy again.

But that's not for me, for I can't help but see,
With the dawning of each brand new day,
That there's hope in the smile of every child,
And I just can't help feeling that way.

For the child of today is the person they say,
Who will fashion the world that's to come;
And I know that I can in that life take a hand,
Shaping those who'll make tomorrow run.

So I pray that I'll reach every child I teach
With the finest that mankind can give,
And instill in these youth a love for the truth
Which will serve them wherever they live.

Let me teach them to know understanding and show
A respect for each person they see;
Let me teach them as they will teach others some day-
And let it begin with me!

I AM YOUR CHILD

I am your child
Where ever you go
You take me too
What ever I know
I learned from you
Whatever I do
You taught me to do.

I am your child
And I am your chance
Whatever will come
Will come from me
Tomorrow is won.

By winning me
Whatever I am
You taught me to be
I am your hope
I am your chance
I am your child.

Whatever I am
You taught me to be
I am your hope
I am your chance
I am your child.
